Healthy Packed Lunches

18th November 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Healthy Packed Lunches at St George’s Catholic Primary School

Research has shown that the foods we eat contribute to how we feel and concentrate. With this in mind, St George’s have developed information to support families to decide what to include in their child’s packed lunch.

As shared last year, St George’s has moved to a ‘nut-free’ environment due to some pupils having severe allergies to different kinds of nuts and nut oils. This means that children’s packed lunches can’t contain foods that have nuts or nut oils in them.

To provide an inclusive environment, our wraparound provision follows this approach too. To support you with ideas on how to make your child’s packed lunch healthier and to see which foods could be included, we have included an information sheet with suggestions from ‘The Eatwell Guide’ and further advice for schools. All of this information is shared on the school’s website under the ‘Parents’ Tab’. Please scroll down and select ‘Healthy packed Lunches’ for more information.

To support all children, staff supporting in the lunch hall will share any concerns with families where the contents of packed lunches do not support a ‘nut free’ environment. If you have any concerns and would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact the school office on 0191 2675677 to make an appointment.

Thank you for your support.
