Autumn 2024

Wow! What a great start to the school year. In year 5/6, we have been super busy, using games to revise our grammar objectives. A lot of partner work has taken place this week. In maths, we have been looking at numbers up to 1,000,000 and exploring all things place value. To do this we used dice to build our own numbers and showed how we can represent their values in a range of ways. To end the week, we have started our micro bit project. The children were extremely patient and persevered in the tricky world of technology. Their coding was very impressive.

Year 5/6 have started ka new topic in French : looking at hobbies and how to discuss our likes and dislikes. To test this out we had to use our new vocabulary to hunt around the classroom for our partners. Continuing our topic of place value, we have been counting forwards and backwards in the powers of 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and beyond. Next week, we are presenting our class value to the school. In preparation we have been learning all about compassion and how we can spread this value around our school.
Wow! What a great end to a busy half term in year 5/6. From presenting our news reports in geography, to coding and creating our own reaction games. I am super impressed with their never-ending abilities and perseverance in such complex tasks. We ended the week with a fantastic performance in our buddy assembly and a special treat: a school disco!
Have a great week off all.
What a great start to the half term. Year 5/6 have thrown themselves in to all of their new topics. In PE, there are already some impressive dribbling skills used during hockey. Learning all about the human body, we were able to use a 'blood relay race 'to explore the circulatory system in science as well as stuyding and comparing old and modern maps of our local area in history/geography. Year 6 have been learning a new method of dividing with larger numbers: long division. They are experts at remembering the rap to help them follow the steps.
Wow...what a week! Year 5/6 were extremely lucky getting a private viewing, along with St Cuthberts, to the new Wicked fil at the Tyneside cinema. Their excitement was contagious and their behaviour was exemplary. They have also worked hard finishing their history write-ups in the role of a minor as well as learning about the negative effects of smoking. The children produced some very informative posters.
A great end to the Autumn Term! For their calendars, the children used their impressive computing skills to superimpose themselves onto various backgrounds to suit each month of the year. As usual, they all danced the morning away at the disco and even had a special visitor in class today.
Have a wonderful time off and see you all next year!
