Week beginning 20th May 2024
After Reception heard all about Earth Day in this week’s assembly, they came up with lots of wonderful ideas of how to help our planet and shared their ideas with their Nursery friends. They decided to make bug houses to help the creatures outside and explained how and what we could recycle around the classroom.
Chef James came to bake with Early Years too, this time we made scones. We rolled out the dough and chose to add fruit or cheese to make our own sweet or savoury scones. Next, we used the cutters to cut a round shape and placed them onto the baking tray. We rolled the dough again and cut more shapes. Once they were cooked, we added butter and/or jam and ate them - these were definite favourites, there was barely a crumb left!
Week beginning 13th May 2024
Following our Police Officer visit last week, Early Years have really engaged in our police role play outdoors. We painted and made our own police car, built a jail using the construction blocks, decorated our own hats and badges, and have dressed up to role play playing ‘cops and robbers’.
We have also made our own shop outdoors, and practised our gardening skills planting and watering seeds.
We loved moving around the apparatus during PE – we definitely have some budding gymnasts!
Week beginning 6th May 2024
In Early Years this week, we have been reading the book ‘Cops and Robbers.’ We have played in the Police Station, made masks to disguise ourselves from each other and made wanted posters to help catch the robbers!
We have loved playing outside in the warm weather, engaging in water play, making potions, playing tennis, blowing bubbles and digging for worms!
Week beginning 29th April 2024
This week, Early Years had a visit from Fire Fighters! Fire Fighter Matt talked to us about how they help people and keep us safe. We listened to the fire alarm and recognised them from our homes and classrooms. We had a look at the uniform they wear, while Fire Fighter Dean showed us how quickly he can put the heavy boots and clothes on in an emergency! It was very impressive! Then, we went outside to see the fire engine and were lucky enough to have a turn of using the hose, pretending to put out a big fire. Finally, we followed instructions of an exercise routine, as Fire Fighters need to stay fit. We loved the visit and learned a lot about how Fire Fighters help us.
Thank you to those parents who joined us for our Reading Café – we love inviting you into school to join in activities with us!
Week beginning 22nd April 2024
We had a very busy day celebrating St George’s day! We have learned all about the history of St George. We have made shields and swords to fight off dragons, decorated flags and role-played being St George. We also enjoyed an ice cream treat! What a super day!
Chef James came to bake with us again - we made pizzas! We expertly rolled the dough and added the toppings - tomato and cheese (some added ham too). We waited patiently for them to cook in the oven and enjoyed eating them once they were cooled. Delicious!
Week beginning 15th April
Our new topic in Early Years this half term is People Who Help Us.
Our role play areas have been transformed into a Doctors/Veterinary Surgery and Fire Station. We have bandaged each other, given medicine to the poorly babies and pets, brushed the dinosaur’s teeth and put out ‘fires’.
Our book is The Tiger Who Came To Tea. We have followed instructions to bake our own bread buns and make our own sandwiches for a picnic tea – thankfully the tiger didn’t come to eat it!
