Summer 2 2024

Week beginning 8th July 2024

This week in Early Years, we have continued our Local History theme and made a variety of maps. We have drawn maps of the school, of our homes and created coffee-soaked pirate maps. We have made our own maps of the local area and played with them using the small world cars and people. We extended this activity by drawing a Wizard of Oz themed map – complete with the yellow brick road and Emerald City!

Reception have loved visiting their new teacher, in their new classroom, with their new classmates, ready for moving up to year 1 in September. We have also welcomed and played with new Nursery and Reception friends during their visits, who are due to join our Early Years family after the summer holidays.

Week beginning 1st July 2024

Early Years Sports Day was a huge success - thankfully the rain stayed away for us! We all joined in the races and activities: bean bag relays, javelin throwing, welly toss and filling bucket with water from the cup (with a sneaky hole in it!) We earned lots of stickers, lots of cheers and claps and all had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Thank you to our families who came to support us.

We also took part in Careers Week along with the rest of the school. Mrs Ash came to tell us all about her job working in ALDI. She showed us her uniform and the special equipment she uses. She told us all about stacking shelves, helping customers find things in the shop and how to use the check out and till. We practised our customer service smiles and told her what our favourite things are to buy from ALDI. Thank you so much for visiting!

Week beginning 24th June 2024

Early Years performed the song “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” to the whole school on Monday to launch our Wizard of Oz themed week. We have enjoyed learning all about the story and loved dressing up as the characters to watch the performance on Friday.

This week, our caterpillars transformed into butterflies! We fed them fruit and sugar water until they were ready to be set free.

Thank you to the parents and family members who came to our Summer Play Session! It was a wonderfully sunny day, a perfect afternoon to enjoy activities in the sun. We do love to have our families come into school to play and chat together.

Week beginning 17th June 2024

Chef James came to visit Early Years again this week - he taught us how to make Eton Mess. First, we cut up the strawberries and then we crushed up a meringue. Next, we added the cream and mixed it all up together. Then we carefully scooped it onto a plate and decorated it with strawberry sauce.
We followed the instructions perfectly and it was absolutely delicious!
Thank you again Chef James!

We have also been keeping a close eye on the caterpillars, who have now turned into cocoons and have been moved into their new home.

Week beginning 10th June 2024

Early Years have been comparing toys and houses from the past and the present. We have been amazed that there was no technology! We have also been looking at local landmarks and sharing if we have visited them or not. We’ve been creating our own junk modelling buildings, painting boxes to make houses and flats.

Early Years have loved watching the caterpillars grow over the past week! They have grown larger and begun to make their way to the top to start their cocooning process. We have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar story to them to make them feel at home.

Week beginning 3rd June 2024

Our new topic in Early Years is Local History but this week we have begun by looking at the whole world. We have enjoyed looking at the world maps in the atlas’ and exploring the globe, seeing if we have heard of or visited any of the countries.

We have loved taking part the RE lessons this week, learning all about the Holy Spirit and how it is represented by the wind. We have made our own kites, flags and streamers to blow in the wind showing our creative and independent skills!

We are lucky enough to have some caterpillars that we are going to watch grow and turn into butterflies. We have been amazed at how much they have grown in 1 week already!
