Autumn 2 2024

Week beginning 16th December

Early Years have had a fabulously festive week! We have made our own finger paint Christmas cards, hand print angel decorations, Santa hats and ‘Jelly Baby Jesus’ crispy cakes. We wrote letters to Santa and received a reply too!!

We joined in to the Cloth to the Cradle service beautifully, getting ready for Jesus’ birthday.

We were surprised with a breakfast with Santa on Thursday morning! We were lucky enough to enjoy pancakes and waffles and each have our photo taken with Santa Claus. We finished our celebrations off with a Disco party in the hall and another in our class, playing party games and dancing.

Have wonderful Christmas break, see you all in 2025.

Week beginning 9th December

Early Years made their own Christingles and took part in the whole school Christingle service, which they sat through beautifully and joined in the singing wonderfully! We have enjoyed being busy in Santa’s Workshop and have written our own letters to Santa Claus. We loved watching the Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime – “Oh yes we did!”

Our Nativity performance was absolutely fantastic! Well done to all of the children, you did us and your families proud – singing, dancing, acting and smiling throughout!

Week beginning 2nd December

Chef James came to bake with Early Years this week! We made some delicious cupcakes that we decorated in Christmas colours of green and red icing and sprinkles.

We began our Advent RE topic, getting ready for Christmas and Jesus’ birthday. We know the Nativity story so well that we can role play and use the small world figurines to retell it. We have made our own advents wreaths; we know how many candles they have and which colours they are!

Santa’s workshop appeared and we have been very busy wrapping presents and writing cards for our friends and family.

Week beginning 25th November

We have thoroughly embraced our Around the World theme in Early Years this week. We have explored different animals that live in hot and cold climates around the world and the weather they experience there. We have talked about the clothes they wear to keep warm or cool, and what they will eat too.

We have loved engaging in play in the Airport role play outdoors. We have made our own passports, checked our luggage through security and flown on the plane to many different destinations.

Week beginning 18th November

In Early Years, many of us wore odd socks on Monday, to raise Anti-Bullying awareness. We discussed and tried to understand the word ‘respect’, how we can show respect to each other and celebrate our differences.

We have made Menorahs in our RE lessons, learning about the Jewish faith.

We have loved reading and exploring the book ‘Handa’s Surprise’ over the past 3 weeks. We have acted out and retold the story using the story sack characters, decorated fruit pictures and tasted the fruit the animals took from Handa’s basket in the story.

On Friday, we also participated in World Youth Fun Day by joining in the Wake & Shake session.

Week beginning 11th November

Early Years began the week learning about Remembrance Day, making our own poppies and even taking part in the 2 minutes silence.

This week was Nursery Rhyme Week. Each day we sang a rhyme and participated in lots of activities around the theme of that rhyme. This years songs are Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Old MacDonald, The Big Ship Sails, Incy Wincy Spider, and 5 Current Buns. We have made twinkling stars, animal masks, created boats to see if they would float or sink, made spiders and webs, and decorated currant buns.

Thank you to the parents and grandparents who were able to join us for our Reading Café – we love it when you join us in school for our events!

Week beginning 4th November 2024

What another busy fun filled week in early Years! We had our first Piccolo Music session of the term. We have learned all about Diwali – Festival of Lights - and made our own Diya candles and rangoli patterns. We also took part in lots of Bonfire Night activities, making art work with lots of colours and sparkle, learning who Guy Fawkes was and what he tried to do. We talked about how we can stay safe when watching fireworks and holding sparklers.

Our cube jar was overflowing so we had our reward – a surprise visit from Elsa, Anna and Spiderman! We all had our photo taken with them, they joined in dancing to our favourite songs and they told us all about themselves. Well done Early Years – a very well deserved treat for you all!
